Rather then most kinds of "diet", the purpose of a liquid diet isn't to lose weight but rather to give the digestive system a break and allow the body to heal. That's the theory, I will discover if theory holds any weight.
For the next three days, from Tuesday to Friday, my diet will consist of plenty of water as well as protein shakes, fruit juice, vegetable juice and yoghurts.
On a daily basis I will be reporting on how my full liquid diet is going, how it is making me feel, any hunger pains I might feel, weigh loss/gain, side effects, etc.
Keep checking back, it should be an education experience.
Okay the clock struck midnight hald an hour ago so I have officially started my liquid diet.
So far so good. ;-)
While this diet isn't about weight loss I did take note of my weight. As of midnight I weighed 138lbs and had a 31.5 inch waist. I will take these measurements again at midnight in three days time.
Alright. I began the day with a glass of water, followed by a banana blended into some milk with a teaspoon of honey. Shortly after this I took my dog for a walk which lasted around 40 minutes.
So far it's been over 14 hours since my last solid meal. Right now I feel some light hunger pangs but energy-wise I feel pretty good.
I'm currently sipping down on a vegetable juice concoction that contains carrots, tomatoes and peppers - seasoned with some basil and black pepper. It's quite nice but I don't know that I'd want to live the rest of my life on this alone.
18 hours now since my last solid meal. I'm noticing that my hands feel colder than normal and my ability to focus is not as good as usual. However I still feel as energetic as I usually do.
I've just finished a protein shake with a banana and peanut butter blended in. I'm still feeling pretty good at this point almost 24 hours in. My hands are like blocks of ice right now though and I think my feet are going that way too. That would seem to indicate a slowing of my circulation.
I finished last night with a homemade fruit juice which consisted of apple, satsumas and a plum. I stopped feeling so cold after that so maybe my blood sugar dropped too low.
Had a much better sleep than usual last night so that would seem to be a plus point to the liquid diet. I woke up and had milk with honey, egg and banana blended in which tasted good.
I've also stopped feeling hungry at this point. I think I was perhaps leaving too big a gap between my meal replacements yesterday, although that was mainly due to having visitors and workmen in and out the house all day.
Just polishing off my second vegetable juice of the day. Right now I'm feeling good, more focused and energetic than I was at the time yesterday. My circulation also seems to have improved.
I had a chocolate protein shake with peanut butter blended in about three hours ago and now I'm having some soup, which is my first "hot" meal for two days now. I'm approaching the 48 hour mark now for the liquid diet and I'm still feeling good.
Hi Jake !! To me it looks like you realy stuffing your self with loads of goodies, i dont think you be starving this week :-ss KEEP going i follow you. :-h
I didn't sleep as well last night and I woke up with a small headache. This disappeared though after a glass of water followed by my (now) usual breakfast of milk with honey, egg and banana blended in.
I only have about 7 hours to go at this point and I'm still feeling good. One benefit to the liquid diet that I've become aware of is the time saved actually eating meals. Normally you might spend an hour or more every day sitting down to eat, but with a liquid diet you can just drink your nutrients while working, reading or whatever.
Since I last posted I've had a protein shake, a yoghurt and a fruit juice.
While this liquid diet wasn't supposed to be about weight loss I did take some measurements at the start of the diet. Then I weighed 138lbs and had a waist of 31.5 inches. Now I weigh 136lbs and my waist is down to 31 inches. Considering the size I was to begin with that is quite an impressive result in such a short time. However I expect that weight will be put back on within the next few days.
I will post more about my thoughts on this experience tomorrow.
Okay time for my overall thoughts on the liquid diet.
While I didn't feel any worse than normal on the diet, I didn't feel any better either. Also I have the good fortune to work from home. This meant that I was free to make myself a juice or shake at anytime. However if I worked a regular 9-to-5 office job I can imagine it would be much tougher to stick too.
Day 1 was the toughest day and it go easier from there. Towards the end though I was definitely looking forward to eating a "proper" meal.
The liquid diet does definitely save time on meal prep and sitting down to eat. I'm not sure how good a thing this is though. Meal time can be a chance to rest and recharge, but with a drink I found myself just carrying on with work.
One thing I will probably take with me from the diet is the fruit juices, they're a quick and tasty way of getting your recommended daily intake of fruit.
With that I'm going to wrap this up, if anyone has any questions related to my experience feel free to ask them and I'll do my best to answer them.
